Hallmark Tree Trimmers
Hallmark Trimmers are a little known category of Hallmark ornament collecting. Trimmers were unboxed ornaments that were introduced as inexpensive additions to the Hallmark Christmas decorations. They varied widely in design, material, and price. In the 1970's the Hallmark Trimmer ornaments were part of the Hallmark keepsake line - these were sewn, plush and yarn ornaments. In 1981 Hallmark established a separate category for the Trimmers and gave them their own stock number. A few of the original Trimmers were repeated at this time with different stock numbers. The "QHT" Tree Trimmer stock number was used from 1981 - 1987; after this time the stock number has varied. Some of the Tree Trimmers produced were "Mailable." These Trimmers were designed to be sent inside a "sentiment pouch," each had different art work and messages. The buyer could combine the chosen Trimmer and sentiment pouch to create a personalized gift. Production numbers for the Hallmark Tree Trimmers were much lower than the Keepsake ornaments, making the Trimmers more scarce and sometimes hard to find. |
