ATTENDANCE BOOSTERS

How to boost attendance:
All clubs ponder this question at some point. Club officers should always keep in mind that in each club there are people who will want to participate in club activities, people that will just want to attend, and some that seem to just want their name on the club roster. That said here are some ideas to boost your club's attendance.

  • Mail In Game - (Mary L - TX) - Put a Hallmark type game (Maze, puzzle, fill-in blanks) in monthly newsletter. This is for members who don't have time to attend a regular meeting. Give a deadline for postmark. Draw winner at the next club meeting. Members don't have to be present to win, but this might encourage members to come see if they win and feel more a part of group!

  • Meeting Dates/Time - It may sound obvious, but be sure to choose a meeting time that is convenient for the majority of members. Some clubs do fine meeting on a weeknight, but many clubs prefer to meet on the weekend.

  • Door Prizes - Door prizes are probably the biggest attendance draw. Some very lucky clubs have sponsors generous enough to provide a small prize for everyone attending! It would probably be wise to keep the prize to attendance ratio fairly high if at all possible. The greater the chances of winning the more people will make it a point to attend.

  • Member Adopt-a-Member - (Submitted by Donna S.) - Make two lists from your club roster - active members and non-active members. Depending on the numbers from each list, you will want to pair non-active members to active members. The active members will then have the responsibility of contacting the non-active members to remind them of upcoming club activities.

  • Participation Point System - (Submitted by Donna S.) - Noel Dreamers is considering starting a Participation Point System. One member is assigned the task of keeping track of the points earned by each member. Points are awarded to members who attend meetings or participate in club activities. Prizes are awarded to members with the highest points. Of course the "point keeper" should get extra points for maintaining the point records.
